When putting jewelry on, avoid doing so over or near hard surfaces, gemstones can chip and break if dropped or knocked against hard surfaces. It is best to put gemstone jewelry on while standing on a carpeted surface or sitting on a bed.

If it feels smooth , the pearl is probably imitation. If the pearl feels rough or gritty, it is probably natural or cultured.
